The powdered turmeric (the herbal medicine) essentially dissolves in the oil, or more accurately, its molecules integrate into the molecular space of the oil — a process often casually referred to as extraction. Even though turmeric may not visually seem fully dissolved, the oil turns yellowish, indicating dispersion.

Turmeric molecules fit into the molecular gaps of oil — approximately 1 Angstrom (10-10 m) in size. To be absorbed through the pores of the Skin into blood vessels, particles need to be roughly on the Nano-meter scale (10-9 m), which these molecules achieve when infused in oil. This absorption sends immediate signals to the brain, by passing the digestive track, activating the respective benefits of the medicine.

In the same way, we’ve been studying — for the past four-five years — how to extract medicinal properties into oil, reduce the compound to even smaller than nanoparticle sizes, and retain their properties so they can be absorbed through the skin’s pores and enter the bloodstream.

As a result of this research, we have developed a machine for manufacturing transdermal patches, which we have been producing and selling for the past few years.

The reason for writing this is to emphasize to the newer generation the importance of adopting a scientific perspective that bridges art and science. In homeopathy, the same mechanism of absorption into the bloodstream is used, but with alcohol as a base instead of oil. In Ayurveda and allopathy, the digestive tract and injections are used for the same purpose.
